Microsoft have announced the top 20 most popular games on XBox Live in 2008.
Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 topped the list which comes as no surprise as the two giants battled it out for the top spot throughout the entire year. Gears of War 2 came out in fourth position, a remarkable achievement considering the game was released only two months ago. Its postition is also telling of who won the Christmas sweeps between GoW 2 and Call of Duty: World at War for the 360. CoD: WaW came in at sixth.
Plenty of Demo releases made it into the top twenty including Battlefield: Bad Company, Star Wars: The Force Unleased, Mirror's Edge, CoD: WaW and Too Human. Out of these titles only the full releases of Bad Company and World at War made back into the list, proving several releases of 2008 were all bark and no bite.

Halo 3 beat COD4, that's a bit of a surprise. As for Mirrors Edge hopefully please saw the light after trying the demo.

I played Halo3 4v4 a few weeks back with 3 mates and it was so easy to get games. You can also tell whether it's 1,2,3 or 4 people at the same house playing and the majority of people we played were indeed groups of 4 guys in 1 house playing all night.
What was also pretty funny was ingame comms. You can speak to the other team at any point and the guy who's XBOX Live account it was said we weren't allowed to drop the cnut word over comms as he's seen people get banned for it and he didnt want to lose his achievements. Obviously being a PC CSS player I instantly grabbed the mic and made reference to our opposition's mother's genitalia. No ban came but whoever admins the auto-game thing seems to have people under control in a very Orwellian way

It works via a complaint system. So if I hear you say a no-no word, I can complain and if you get so many complaints you get banned.

Madden is in there and I think its the most played EA sports title online. It is pretty crazy that FIFA didn't make the list though.

How can fifa not make the list? I always get games ever so easy whenever i play.
