PEGI will now be the only system used to determine what you can and cannot play according to the government. The games industry made a collective sigh of relief when the announcement was made that the BBFC will no longer rate games. The responses by both PEGI and the BBFC can be found at CVG.
Quake Live has a new map. Courtyard Conundrum is from Q3 Arena and features gameplay that suites 8-12 players. You can play the new map in the CTF arena.
LIME Interactive is now selling Astro Gaming headsets. The headsets are popular with console gamers due to their battery operated mixamp which is great for use at LAN. The mixamp retails for 115 quid and a complete headphone/mixamp package goes for 230 pounds. Still very pricey, but nice to see a UK retailer stocking them.
World of Warcraft is getting a battleground that will support up to 80 players. The Isle of Conquest will allow up to 40 players per Horde and feature five capture locations. The new battleground will arrive with the Call of the Crusade patch.
Microsoft could be positioning themselves to launch a new console with Project Natal. 1UP is claiming the new 360 console (720?) will feature upgraded hardware that will allow for better performance and graphics. Microsoft refuse to comment.
Modern Warfare 2 is set to become the biggest selling game of 2009 when it is launched in November. Activision are expecting 11 million copies to be sold in 2009 alone with over 7 million of those sales coming in the first week of global release. To give you an idea of the scale... CoD: World at War has only just reached 11 million units sold worldwide since being launched in November, 2008.
An update on the L4D 2 boycott: the group now has 30,000 users and counting. Valve has really pissed a lot of people off with the announcement of Left4Dead 2. I say Carpe Diem! Valve is business after all.
