Another Fishy Movie
Another Fishy Movie

BANG! And the German is gone. Hi, I’m Barry Twot and welcome to another edition of ‘See It Go Bang!’
Well well, someone has finally decided to make a movie based on World War 2 and about time too; how many nights I have laid still in a puddle dreaming of such a moment, alas my lack of limbs has prevented me from writing my own script.
With the aid of a lolly pop stick cellotaped to my head I have pulled myself from my slumber, ignored my despair and managed to type this news piece for you, praise the baby Jesus and his fine beard.
So that fine game Call of Duty, or CoD as you fish obsessed kids call it is being made into a movie, not much of a surprise you might think what with the games natural style of cinematic set pieces but what will the film be like?
I reckon it’ll feature guns, screaming and a moral core to the story. Nice. Why, it writes itself.
Let us hope, dear friends, that this film is not budget and that the script is given all due attention and the finance men open their bulging wallets for more than the effects department, although they’d best be top notch as the game’s FX are.
Sweet sandals of Zeus I’m lost as to what to think of this, alas I fear the worst yet hope for the bestso as stuck in between dreading and looking forward to this.
It’ll be walking a fine line, a thin red line even, between clichéd game bang bang rubbish and credible World War 2 cinematic fare.
As always with game based film news pieces I leave you all with this question; what do you think?
Well speak up!
Sadly I must depart as my lolly pop stick is wearing down. Back to the puddle & my day dreaming....
Oh No, Call of Duty is Headed to the Big Screen, Too?
Not another video game movie! And especially not an adaptation of one of the greatest video game franchises ever?!
No major confirmation yet, but the Hollywood Reporter is hinting at the possibility. In a recent article about Activision's Guitar Hero being turned into a TV show were a few sentences about Call of Duty.
"Discussions are under way to turn the World of Warcraft and Call of Duty video games into movies."
That's all that was really side, with an insider apparently confirming that "they are being talked about for the big screen."
We've known about that World of Warcraft movie for a while, but Call of Duty?
I think I need to echo the same sentiments as everyone else - didn't we see Saving Private Ryan or "Band of Brothers"? Is there really a need to adapt this game when we've already got great war movies?
Originally, Call of Duty was just a great series of games based off of real life missions and events from World War II. However, the fourth sequel, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, was set in modern times and involved an Ultranationalist movement in Russia in the "near future."
I'm guessing that Hollywood producers are more interested in developing an adaptation of that game set in modern times than any of the WWII games.
So here's the thing - I could see them pulling this off (even though it's unlikely). What I mean is that, if they find a great writer and director (obviously this is the most important part), and turn into a hyper-stylized kinetic action movie that transcends being either a) another great WWII movie or b) yet another boring modern day war movie, then it could actually be pretty good.
Maybe that's just because I'm an optimist and I look at the positive side of everything, but either way, maybe we should give them a chance instead of instantly looking at this so negatively. I just really hope they don't turn it into Saving Private Ryan 2.
Amen brother, us humble pilgriams at Enemy Down couldn't agree more even if we had our camo agreeing hats on.
