Hey folks, we one armed goat herders at Enemy Down are driven by the power of the mighty wind to bring you information of anything game related and we know that you, like us, are interested in what is happening with any ‘good’ game related movie that is currently in (or near to being in) production, right? Right.
Sadly we can’t bring you news on the Halo movie as that seems to be in pre-production limbo due to that most frequent of bugbears, namely CASH!
Anyway, have no fear for our friends at FirstShowing.net are hot to trot with information on the Gears of War movie and, if you read between the lines, things are shaping up nicely with screenwriter Chris Morgan promising that ‘gamers will be thrilled’.
Well that is for time to tell & Chris we’ll be the judge of that.
For now check out the report from FirstShowing.net and have a say on what you want from the film and what you think of the news so far.
So, over to FirstShowing.net.... ....
Gears of War Movie Update from Writer Chris Morgan
Remember that Gears of War movie in development? Yep, it's still moving along quite well, even though we haven't heard much about it.
MTV got in touch with screenwriter Chris Morgan for a brief update on the project.
"A draft went in and we're talking about it now and we're budgeting it out… It's looking incredibly good."
So far so good, let's just hope that budget doesn't start to worry New Line. In this rough economy, and with video game movies mostly still unsuccessful, I doubt they'd approve a bloated budget, as much as we'd all like to see one for Gears of War. But don't fear, Morgan promises it'll be "huge" anyway.
"I think the gamer side is going to be thrilled with it," Morgan told MTV. "All the stuff you want to see, we put that in there and then we blow it out a little more, even. Now it's just a matter of honing in on all of the character arcs and determining production types of things."
Sounds good. And as for that bloated budget, what does he have to say about that?
"One of the things they're really talking about now is the budget of the film and how big of a spectacle this is going to be. My argument is, look at the underlying material. Look at the game and the scenario — the fact that the world is being taken over by the Locust, it has to be huge."
So what does this mean for all of us? At least that Morgan is fighting the good fight and pushing for a bigger, better, and more epic Gears of War movie. As far as we know, Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman is still on-board to direct, whenever it does get a green light. As always, we'll keep you updated on this.
(Back to your ED correspondent, Senor Dekko).... .... ....
So there you have it. All of you Gears people should take heart at this news but let's not all put on our paper hats of victory just yet, we'll save that until we know the cast list.
If the budget is good enough then the visuals should at least be cool & if the director from the last Die Hard movie, Len Wiseman is involved it bodes well for the action sequences.
It all hinges on the usual stuff; script, what they're allowed to do, what rating they push for and who is cast in the major roles.
What do you lot reckon and who would be your choice to play Marcus Fenix?
