Transactions: YoYoTech sign Vale, Veritas make changes
Transactions: YoYoTech sign Vale, Veritas make changes
Posted by SmellyMoss on Apr 20th 2009 13:54
I've been waiting patiently for enough team changes to happen to justify taking up the front page of ED with a dissection of such transactions - I was torn that it was taking so long but knew i36 would provide at least a little fodder. On the other hand, I was happy to see such consistency in the scene. This transactions post will cover several titles and teams as I want to stay in tune with the spirit of my new eSports mantra (read it and follow it to help make UK eSports as incredible as could/should be).
YoYoTech sign Vale! (TF2)
First up, YoYoTech have picked up Vale! to fill in their slowly vacating Team Fortress 2 line-up. Several members of the former squad are moving on, namely Appz is joining the RAF and Alberyayo is retiring. Vale!, who are favourites to take the UKeSA Championship and Alienware Cup, were ranked sixth in the March edition of the Cadred TF2 Rankings. This is a solid signing by YoYo and was a coup considering it's a move that will keep YoYo in the Dell XPS Premiership. Vale! are a sure bet for promotion.
ButtonBashers drop R1k (CoD4)
Stuart Saw and Michael Groen's empire is expanding. They've recently signed Intel Extreme Master WoW PvP Champs, HON, and they feature two top-rated squads in CoD4 and ET. The Bashers' Call of Duty 4 team is the only salaried team in the Dell XPS Premiership and they are going into the Grand Finals in the four spot. Not acceptable when you're getting paid. Changes are being made and the first change came in the form of R1k being released. He was BB's replacement for mofje, who quit playing after CC5 so it's not surprising that he's been singled out as the man who needs to go. ButtonBashers have yet to announce an official replacement but have been trialing former Speed-Link player, Solz. He will be attending LAN79 with the team so we won't know what's going on with the side until then.
Shadowman leaves Veritas (CSS)
Veritas have been on a roll over the past four months. Only months ago they made the playoffs in the ESL EMS and managed to steal the ten spot in the Cadred CSS Rankings. Now, Veritas have dropped Shadowman. Why? Little birdies are saying that he showed up to the final day of i36, "stinking hungover and depleted of precious fluids." Needless to say, his play was not up its usually standard and he has subsequently been let go. Who will replace him? Options that have been suggested include Speed, fnc and Jesus. Alright, that last one was my own suggestion but is Veritas made up of nuns? How hungover was Shadowman? Sure, show a little professionalism but there is nothing wrong with enjoying the finer sides of life.
Team CoolerMaster lose Helblinde & warclown (CSS)
TCM recently lost Helblinde and warclown to work and uni, respectively. However, TCM made this announcement along with who their replacements would be. Fetish is now officially joining the squad from ROCCAT along with free agent, ANGeldusT. The new line-up has already impressed, taking third place at Heaven Media's Gadget Show Live tournament this past weekend. Next stop, UKeSA's Dell XPS Premiership Grand Finals at GameOn! London were they get to take on Crack Clan in their semi-final match-up.
YoYoTech sign Celsus' then drop them and pick-up Genetix (CoD4 360)
What on Earth has happened here? This is an oddly timed move that looks very bad on YoYoTech. Who steals a team away from another clan, drops them, then signs up another side. Yes, Genetix are a top side and it could be considered a crime against humanity that they had yet to be picked up by an MGO, but who wants to play for a team that is willing to let a debacle like this happen? Let the flaming begin... on wait, it has! Sammy K, 360 Manager over at YoYo said, "I want to say the best of luck for Elmo and his squad for the future as they are a great bunch of guys but unfortunately they did not meet some requirements while i was sorting out their move to YoYoTech."
Obviously, dropped Celsus player, elmo, disagrees and has said, "I feel the the whole situation was handled extremely unprofessionally and has meant I have lost alot of respect for some people. We have been left in a very precarious position and hopefully we will sort something out. I think YYT need to evaluate some of their staff's roles and see if their are actually good enough for the job in such a big organisation. I wish Good Luck to GX and all the best in the future."
Considering the lack of information on what has happened here I am going to have to agree with Elmo on this one. Glad to see no hard feels between the players.
