StarCraft2 a trilogy?

Blizzard announced that the long awaited StarCraft2 will be released in three parts giving the consumer a more in depth story.

Posted by .Icarus. on Nov 25th 2008 14:37

Blizzard have split the community by announcing Starcraft2 will be now sold in three parts. Paul Sams from Blizzard had this to say to the guys from VideoGamer.

"The fact of the matter is, it's absolutely, positively untrue about us trying to stretch it out and milk it. People think that it was a monetary driven decision. I can absolutely, positively tell you, with 100 per cent certainty, that that was not part of the conversation. I guarantee it. I give my word. There was never, ever a conversation where we said, 'let's do this because we're going to make more money'. I guarantee it. As a matter of fact the sole reason we did it was because we thought it was going to be a better experience. Anybody that says otherwise is not correct. It is absolutely not what we did it for."

The fact still stands that you will not get the second an third parts of this game for free and looking at sales figures for the burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, I am more than just a little sceptical of believing Blizzards hand on heart comments.

The game is well known for its massive online community's how will this effect the multiplayer modes? Will factions only be now released over a period of years?

One argument keeps cropping up in defence of Blizzard by some fans "If they didn't release it in three parts we would have to wait longer for its release". We will have to see if all factions for the multiplayer are released in the first volume in order for that to hold any water.

1up.com has a great  "everything you need to know guide" on the trilogy and is well worth a read.
