Community Husting Responses
1. What is your opinion on the number of European teams 'recruiting' dubious UK managers to participate in UKeSa? And if/when this matter comes up in a council meeting, will you be voting for or against teams who have a mystery manager without any evidence to back it up? (Hippy)
A. A tough question as it really comes down to a few factors, one of course being the question of determining the definition of a dubious team or manager? We also have to look at why a European teams would want to enter and their specific interest in UKeSa? Personally I think we need not worry and focus more on giving the benefit of doubt to all teams that enter, unless they give us reason to think otherwise. If we appeal to the majority it would potentially mean that UKeSa develops to be a model that is profitable, sustainable, enjoyable and something for all of the community to back and continue to shape. Everyone, no matter their size, skill or nationality (subject to them following the rules for entrance and ongoing) should be considered. This of course appeals to the sponsors, ensuring their exposure and coverage is as large as possible. We have to remember that season one should be viewed as the ‘pilot’ and if this becomes a problem ongoing then the rules for entrance need to be reviewed.
2. What do you think that you can bring to the table for UKESA and gaming in general for the UK? (Tsunami)
A. I will take this opportunity to give a little background on myself as an individual in eSports. I’m Neil ‘Kboy’ Kirk, 30 years of age and a passionate supporter and fan of eSports. I have been involved in esports for the last seven years and I was the founder of Team-eSourceUk, Team-Coolermaster - of which I still own a 50% stack holding. Since that time I am now the Business Development Manager at Fnatic. I am a strong supporter of eSports related projects, helping other projects such as Promod, with its initial creator raf1. When it comes to it I believe I have a very well rounded experience and support many projects for the greater good. What does that mean specifically to UKeSa and gaming in general for the UK – well my previous ventures have shown that I do not see nationality as a divider. I also have shown by running and founding such organisations that I am hard working, whilst given UK teams, either upcoming or established the opportunities I think many rightly deserve. In addition (although some might disagree) I also try to look at things with an open mind, but where necessary take a firm line. In most cases with experience comes understanding, especially taking into consideration a lot of the commercial battles that front a lot of heated discussions on forums between organisers and players. I’m sure a lot of other candidates would also claim this, but I believe my achievements in terms of community activity would demonstrate that for me it really is not a flash in the pan, but a long term goal to make things better and something that to date I have worked very hard for.
3. But on the issue of UKeSA's "official governing body" status, whilst I don't think anyone has the right to appoint themselves as such that doesn't there being an official governing body isn't a good idea, I just want UKeSA to *earn* how would you go about earning that title, how are you going to get <insert name of gaming community here> to recognise you as the UK's official governing body? (Kendle)
A. I certainly don’t have the right to appoint myself and believe in getting the whole community involved in decisions, giving them all a voice. Clearly that is difficult to do and manage (based on numbers), so its important to find a balanced ‘governing body’that can truly represent the community and those involved directly. Personally I believe that the only way to be recognised and acknowledged is through hard work, dedication and support for those key to the success of UKeSa – the teams and players. We have to be supportive of UKeSa, positive and give every opportunity to the organisations behind the structure. Importantly not be afraid to share our opinions and views with all concerned. Not be afraid to make mistakes, but for the right reason and learn from them, thus shaping future (should it be deemed a success) seasons.
4. Each candidate has their own game backgrounds, what would you do to ensure that UKeSA does not become dominated by that one game and that the other major titles are seen with equal importance? (baldrick)
A. I don’t ever see UKeSa being dominated by any one game based on their current model. However it is of course always something that needs to be carefully watched and assessed. This really goes back to one of the earlier questions. We need to ensure we give everyone a voice through the governing body, showing the true value (where it is justified) for all games that can support and make this profitable, sustainable and enjoyable for the players but importantly spectators. I see no commercial reason why UKeSa should be limited to one platform or game – surely appealing to the masses will be the only way this can work and have a future? This also applies to all the divisions. Upcoming teams from the Open Division deserve (in my opinion) the same limelight as the others. Helping assist all levels can only be good for the sustained future and benefits all concerned.

I don't believe this candidate understands question 3 let alone knows how to answer it.
A good knowledge of the arguments and issues raised in regards to UKeSA would have been a good starting point to launch an election campaign from. Oh well.

Question: If you had the option to add two agenda points for the first meeting of the Community Council what would they be and why?
kboy said: (Mar 03 2009 at 15:03:34 GMT)
In response to kk.Blair Mayne: I fully understood question 3. The only way to prove to people that anyone is worthy of being in a privileged position would be through hard work, dedication and actually hands on getting things done on behalf of the community. Surely that is a valid answer.

In response to Schu11ers: A good question. If I had to add two points to an agenda I would add... a)Fixing the lower leagues to ensure they obtain as much exposure as those above them. This then helps the development of talents, teams and gives everyone something to really feel part of as a whole community - not just a few "select top teams" that seem to always get the light.
b)A more vigorous selection process, one that explicitly assesses eligibility on a case by case basis. This may be addressed for the remainder of the season but importantly ongoing.

@ kboy
That is an excellent answer. Thanks.
