Capcom announces Lost Planet 2 is in development

Posted by Dekko on Feb 26th 2009 18:09

If you think you feel cold now then wait until you drop back into the frozen world of the sexily named Wayne Holden.

That's right folks, Capcom has officially announced the development of Lost Planet 2 for the Xbox 360, as debuted Monday via an exclusive (if some what underwhelming) announcement over Xbox Live.

The original game, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, has sold 2.2 million copies worldwide to date and the chance to delve back into the icy world of E.D.N. III no doubt whets the appetites of many a gamer.

It was a bit of a landmark for the 360, I remember the demo coming up on Marketplace way before the games final release and many people regarded it as the first truly next-gen looking game, pretty it was back in those misty eyed days.

And it was fun to boot, a solid single player adventure which featured great weapons, mech-esque suits, a grappling hook, those great Starship Trooper extras the Akrid and that all important thermo goo which you had to acquire to prevent frost bite on your dinky.

And online was good mixing a cocktail of grenade types, grappling hooks, mech suits and the dreaded thermo goo (V energy? I forget the name now).

In fact it was the first and only game until Street Fighter 4 that I've seen Japanese players on.

Well Lost Planet number two injects the usual steroid sequel boost with everything being both bigger and better.

The game picks up ten years after the original and thanks to all the terraforming the face of E.D.N. III has begun to change with the ice starting to melt and evolving lush tropical jungles and other new enviroments.

In the sequel you don't play as good old Wayne, instead you take control of your own customised Snow Pirate and interact with the story in a more dynamic way.

We'll have to wait & see how this works in actual game play, beating the crap out of enormous Akrid scum will still be the heart of it as you & your pirate chums battle to take control of the planet.

Capcom has listened to the fans (always a good thing, take note Epic) and has spent time reviewing community feedback and incorporating aspects of this into the new game.

One of the biggest features will be the four player co-op over Xbox Live, you and four comrades will be able to team up and fight out the evolving single player campaign together.

Using MT Framework 2 the game promises to be a treat building on the work of the original MT Framework of the first game, so keep 'em peeled ladies as over the snow may lay gaming nirvana.
