UKeSA Team & Manager Eligibility

UK eSports currently confirming team eligibility

Posted by SmellyMoss on Feb 9th 2009 18:14

9th February 2009 (London, UK) – The United Kingdom eSports Association is starting its team entry and manager entry requirements review. The outcome of this exercise will determine which teams will be eligible for the Premiership Division.

"Rewarding UK teams and teams who have followed the management rules is a priority for the UKeSA," said UKeSA Chief Executive Ray Mia, "we are currently in the process of confirming the eligibility of Team Managers in the Championship Divisions.”

Only Championship Teams that have a full squad, valid GUIDs/GamerTags, have paid their player registration fees and have a Team Manager that meets the UKeSA Team Manager criteria will be considered for the Premiership Division selection.

In order to ensure that Team Managers are eligible for the UKeSA, they may be asked to prove their citizenship, place of residence and ownership of the team. In some cases this may take the form of copies of a utility bill or council tax receipt as proof of residence and a copy of their passport as proof of citizenship. Proof of team ownership may be proven by a copy of the internet domain registration of their team.

In future residence qualification for Team Managers will be overseen by the UKeSA Community Council, which will be in session from the beginning of March. Community Council elections will begin on February 24th, 2009.

In the interim teams with questions about management requirements or any team with a concern about another team’s eligibility should contact UKeSA on info@ukesa.com.

Well in these days theres alot more to do E-Sport wise other than playing. Websites, Trials, Coaching... etc

Suppose it just allows the players to concentrate on playing, Manager can do all the ickle stuff.

You'll find the "ickle" stuff is the playing itself!

Not exactly. There are managers out there that are just good at managing, like seeking sponsorship, competitions, workshops, etc. Like for example, a manager who deals with musicians/singers are not necessarily musicians themselves. Same with football agents. There will come a time where you guys will retire from your "player manager" positions and the skills you will inherit from the management training will prove useful if you choose to solely manage a team in the future. Like Arsene Wenger, Gianfranco Zola, etc, they were all players themselves but chose later in life to manage and coach teams.

but self managing is still an option rite?
i dont have to go out my way to find a manager do i?

Oh yeah. But you also have to take into account the managerial training sessions, which I guess you will have to attend, finding sponsors, sorting out tax returns, financial management, brand awareness, etc, etc if you and your team are to make a living out of competitive gaming. It is just more then playing games...

or rather, it's more than just playing games!!!

Yeah Ryoga, what you're saying is 100% on the money, I see a future of pure gaming managers who are not player managers, there are some already for the bigger clans as you'll know.
But for up & coming clans I can think of one already from my recent interview with him; Phattpantz from Betamaxx, he's the kind of person that UKeSA is looking for; a pure breed of manager, good with working with sponsors, promoting his clan, dealing with players problems so they can focus on the game etc.
After all, just like football, when money is involved you want your players focused.
I do hope that this doesn't lead to an era of spoilt, pampered clan players though.
When will we see players having contracts that can be bought & sold? The first million pound player lays in the shadows somewhere now probably.

The UKeSA transfer system is perhaps the first step toward this? Unlike football though I feel that the transfer windown for clan gaming will be a good thing, stopping the constant migration of players.

I think a transfer system would be something worth looking into over the coming seasons. I would also like to petition the remove of the term "clan" from professional gaming! ;)

That's why we have teams and squads in the UKeSA - working to try and convince the powers that be here at ED to do the same... one day! Although I think any team with team in the name is just silly.

@ Dekko, cheers for the support
@ Geepak sounds good to me but would need every player to understand about the transfer situation and look at having the top leagues locked to the pro teams this way it stops people just leaving a team and starting up a new team again otherwise transfer window will not work.
@ Ryoga who's says I'm not a Ninja ...

Well I would assume a fine or a lifetime ban for those who leave a team without consulting the Community Committee.
