Company of Heroes Tales of Valor
Company of Heroes Tales of Valor

Company of Heroes has been dubbed by some as one of the all time greats of the RTS genre, but what will we get out of a third purchase? Speaking as a big fan of the game I have my fingers firmly crossed and my legs. I MUST have more multiplayer units and factions; I MUST have an improved relic online experience. Will I get them who knows? THQ are only releasing information regarding the new single player experience.
The New campaign modes feature around three stories of heroics hence the title Tales of Valor. It looks like the single player game has had a lot of the resource management reduced to a very small amount giving the gamer a faster and more action packed experience focusing on the story and leaving the management aspect for the multiplayer mode.
THQ are obviously trying to make COH more accessible to the masses by dumbing down the complexity of unit trees and resourcing. One of the other major changes the game is boasting is the Direct control feature, giving you the cockpit view of a tank commander or jumping into the sights of an anti tank unit this takes the game away slightly for the diehard RTS fan but should open the game up to the more action orientated.
We will have to see what the end result is like; if it’s anything like its big brothers I will be a happy customer. The cynic in me says wake up Icarus this is just a Fat cash cow, another example of company’s making you pay for additional units. Gone seem to be the days when your game got patched with free extra units and levels.
Time will tell of course as more information is disclosed, you can read more on this subject at Eurogamers in depth preview release for this is scheduled in for next spring.
