The count-down begins for Championship Division games

25th January 2009 (London, UK) – The UK eSports Association (UKeSA) will start the process of deciding which of the 22 Open Division game types will be represented in the semi-professional Championship Division at midnight on Sunday 25th January. Championship Division games will be the most popular 8 to 10 (by squad sign ups) Open Division games.

“With over 4,000 competitors and 1,000 squads signed up to the Open Division we are delighted with the community response to date.” said Ray Mia, the Chief Executive of UKeSA today. “At midnight we will be noting and validating the number of squads signed up to each game in preparation for the formal announcement of the Championship Division games on Tuesday evening.”

The UKeSA today further confirmed that the timeline for the run up to Season One, key dates being:

  • Sunday 25th January ‘09 (2359 hrs):
    • Squads counted towards Championship Division games.
    • Open Division sign-ups remain open until 6th February.
  • Tuesday 27th January ‘09 (1800 hrs):
    • Championship Division game types announced.
    • Championship Division sign-ups open.
  • Sunday 1st February ‘09 (2359 hrs):
    • Squads counted towards the Premiership Division games.
    • Championship Division sign-ups remain open until 6th February.
  • Tuesday 3rd February ‘09:
    • Premiership Division games types announced.
    • £35,000 prize fund allocation across all games and Divisions (including  Premiership Division retainer) confirmation.
  • Friday 6th February ‘09:
    • Premiership Division Teams announced.
    • All Season One League sign-ups closed.
  • Monday 9th February ‘09: 
    • Season One League matches start.
    • Season One Cup sign-ups open.
  • Monday 16th Feb 09:
    • Community Council election starts.
  • Monday 23rd Feb 09:
    • Sign-ups close for the Season One Cup events.

Squads who were signed up in the Open Division but would like to move into the semi-professional Championship Division will need to sign up to the new Championship Division events. Championship Division players will be charged a fee of £7.49 per player to participate. This can either be paid individually or by a Team Manager covering the cost of multiple players/squads.

Finally, UKeSA ask all Team Managers to check www.enemydown.eu between now and Tuesday 1200hrs in case the Operations Team is attempting to contact them regarding questions concerning their squads.

Okay thanks. How are each team allocated to a division? My team should be in the premiership for COD4. Will the prize money be allocated according to how many teams sign up for each game? I take it you won't win 35k just on COD4 lol
