The race is on to see what the top 10 titles will be for Season 1 of the UKeSA Open Divisions. The top game titles, which will be determined according to the amount of fully registered squads on January 25th, will automatically become UKeSA semi-pro Championship Divisions.
Teams have until January 25th to get their full squads signed up in the Open Division titles in order for their squads to be counted towards the final tally, however teams will still have until February 6th to register to play.
Word is spreading like wildfire about the launch of the the UKeSA's first leagues with stories appearing all over the internet with positive coverage even appearing in the Guardian.
Currently, leading the pack of 22 titles is Counter-Strike: Source with 128 teams with registered squads and over 830 players.
FIFA 09 looks as though it will officially be represented on the XBox 360 in the UKeSA Championship with 81 players currently anticipating play to begin.
Two titles that have seen a huge amount of support and response are Counter-Strike 1.6 (60 squads) and Team Fortress 2 (39 squads). Great to see the TF2 community fighting to be a part of the UKeSA.
Call of Duty 4 on the PC (48 squads) was slow off the mark but has seen tremendous growth in the amount of sign-ups over the past two days.
From there on out the competition has been blown wide open with several 360 titles trying to gather pace.
Halo 3 and CoD 4, both on the 360, are neck and neck with 37 squads a piece. Gears of War 2 (29 squads) has turned many heads with its strong community support.
Finally, props goes out to the Rainbox Six: Vegas 2 community on the 360 who fought to have their game included in the Open Division and are showing why with 23 teams offering squads.
Get your teams, squads and players registered now by signing up to Enemy Down and clicking here.
To see a fully tally of registrations for each title, take a look at the UKeSA tournaments section of the site.

Yeh very exciting stuff for us gamers, its good to see UKeSA getting the coverage it deserves. Good stuff Guys.
I think GoW2 will become the leading 360 shooter IF the patch is good.
Hopefully Fifa 360 will be a premiership title :D.
Kudos Peeps

Depends if teams are willing to accept FIFA player into their roster. I would assume there will be a barrage of teams trying to recuit FIFA players if it becomes a Premiership Division title - so I would suggest scouting for these players. Team Dignitas has already got a foothold by picking up some of the CGS players. There are a few decent players on FIFA 09 - I won't mention who though...

I really hope gow2 gets bigger i have been spreading the word about this big time. is gow2 defo gona be 5v5 or 4v4

They have already announced it as 4v4 Johnny, also i doubt any of the Fifa titles wll get premier status if your just going off the player counts.

Sacred> Only if teams/managers know that FIFA can get them sponsorship easier than any of the first or third person shooters. The whole point of the management training is to education them and help them get sponsors. Imagine getting sponsored by Nike or Adidas because your FIFA players are the ones getting more exposure and winning tournaments/leagues OR you have a healthy selection of players from each game doing very well in each of the Divisions, which will also give you an easier job to find sponsors. In terms of media exposure, UKeSA has Future Publishing at the moment for publications. Time will tell if they are in talks with a broadcaster or not - which will also heighten the chances of sponsorship.

GoW has been changed from 5v5 to 4v4.
The tally will go on complete squad numbers not player counts. FIFA would count as 81 teams right now. We are going to encourage players to find managers for the premiership just to help with keeping on top of everything. We need players focused and able to play - managers will take care of media, sponsors, etc. UKeSA is about teams not individuals.

If games are promoted to championship and premiership based on popularity, shouldn't UKeSA be looking at the number of signed up players instead of teams? One FIFA player makes a team where 6-10 players are needed to make a TF2 team. Currently FIFA has 92 teams and 92 players signed up. TF2 has 46 teams but 343 players. Isn't it just common sense to say that FIFA is less popular if we look at the current signups only? If you keep your current system, squad based game like TF2 which is played 6v6 needs to get at least 6-8 times as many players than 1v1 games to have any chance to compete with them.
I understand if you don't want to count the players directly since squads could just start stacking unneeded players to their teams to boost the popularity of their game but in my opinion you should use some kind of modifier. Say that for example four 1v1 teams are equal to one team in squad based games like CSS, CoD4 or TF2. Even then 1v1 games would have an hefty advantage here.

Moose has a very good point, it needs to be looked into in more depth as to what gets picked.
The other side to the coin is should it just have FPS games in there?
Tjet said: (Jan 21 2009 at 12:53:02 GMT)
I agree with Moose, UKesa definitely needs to take a look at this
TI Sacred said: (Jan 21 2009 at 13:32:21 GMT)
In complete agreement with what moose has said although i'd like to think they'd have taken this into consideration anyway as it's just common sense.
I think they shouldn't base the 4 premiership games purely on signups either it would be nice to see some variation in genre/platform.
Moose{UNi} said: (Jan 21 2009 at 14:01:54 GMT)
What Waylander and Sacred said are also true. I think it would be such a shame to have for example two different versions of Counter-Strike or FIFA to be included in the premier games when they're basically the same game. Unfortunately such decisions are not up to me :/

it's stupid to count only one FIFA player as a 'squad' to be honest..
