MODx The Last MOD standing WWC @ Jan 30 01:14

Tonight in epic style, Ministry of Darkness had 3 squads in the Winter Warmer Cups on Enemy Down. The first round was to get underway at 7pm, but the first team of MOD, named MINISTRY found themselves up against the Number 1 ranked team in ED currently, "Good Looking Gamers" on de_train, so it was a tough match as MINISTRY aernt fans of train. Hyper were in Cup B and had Gnocide a team who had on Wednesday night came close to Semi Finals of Hostage Heroes Cup A, but were in a long OverTime match which lasted 2 over times, a team who were full of confidence, so Hyper had it all to do. eXtreme however, had a tough match, and had some weight to throw around, they had played Train on tuesday, and lost all 3 matches, with little or no tactics there were problems there, and activity was an issue with eXtreme, problems galore but eXtreme had some spirit to show. So matches began, and MODx were awarded a default as the team had something come up surprisingly..... anyway Hyper got off to a smashing start with a fantastic 16 - 7 result over Gnocide, whilst the flagship of the fleet MINISTRY put up a spirited performance by losing 16 - 13 to GLG.

Next round fixtures had been pulled out of the bag, in Cup B, Hyper had a team that most MOD teams would be familiar with, SquareDisk Gaming, while in Cup D, eXtreme had a team that was in Entry Ladder, and who had a player banned for Mercing, and so had a 4 man lineup, ReactionGaming team 2, that was it for the eXtreme lads, they smelt blood. Results were coming in quick and fast with inferno matches, and MODx were awarded a default win, so much time had been wasted, but MODx saw a chance to get some quick taccy time for D2 the next map. Hyper meanwhile were classed as "Dire Dire Dire & Dire" by Treb the Team Captain, and they were knocked out, in style by SquareDisk Gaming 16 - 1 the score. Not one for the front page there.

So eXtreme were facing one hell of a lot of pressure now, the most underperforming squad in Ministry Of Darkness currently, and the last squad standing, facing an opponent who we had never beaten, and an opponent who were a mere 45th in the ED Ladder, Sex, Drugs & Counter Strike Source Team 1, a harderned up team, who are renown for being a solid line up against any team, dust2 the match, and sweat already pouring just from Gumpster the Team Manager, this was one for the record books, Gumpster puts down a speech to the team (with a quick line up change, Iron in for ShooTa (Iron not played CSS for two weeks or more)), this was one hell of a match for MODx. Any other day as Dust2 is not our faviourite, and is just not liked (especially by Crazy) you would say MODx would lose 25 - 5 any day... however this match was different, you could feel it in a way, everyone was happy to see Iron finally come back to the team, everything was just clicking into place. My speech consisted of a promise of a tenner to each player if we went out and won the match against SD:css, i was that desperate to have a swipe back at our critics in the community, and finally get some silverware ourselves, instead of being riddiculed for giving MOD's home page a bad name with consistent losses. So MODx had a point to prove, were the lads really gonna live up to their name, and be eXtreme. So we went into a knife round with heads up, got to a point where it was 3 vs 2 and then 1 vs 2, then Iron coming in Huge with the last 2 defeated, we chose to go CT, where we won 4 rounds on the trot getting SD:css on the backfoot, then SD:css had some good rushes and there were 2 close rounds, a big up to Iron as he nearly had a 5man clutch (only got a 4man), but we were showing grit and determination to win, spirited rounds, when SD:css turned up the heat and pulled it out pegging us back to 4- 3, then we took another round with a solid hold, 5 - 3, but then it all went a little pear shaped, with some good fakes and good rushes by SD:css, they knew this map, they exploited a familiar weakness, and took a lead to 7 - 5, but MODx knew, they believed, and took the following 3 rounds, with some quick awping from Iron/Kirby and Falcon, Falcon got a 3 man on the last round to bring us to a not so comfortable 8 - 7 first half lead. Gumpster pops back into the MODx Vent Channel, and to some surprise, people were calm and relaxed (usually I pop into chaos, and i have to be the voice of reason), people were clicking and were prepared for the second half. As the second half began i was just keeping my fingers crossed and just knew 8 rounds was all we need to secure the win, but by gosh we just have to make it difficult for ourselves. SD:css knew they had a lot to do but they knew a good solid hold and good rotations would be the key to ending our cup run and getting them into the Cup Final, they rushed into a 5 - 0 lead, at this point i was worried, but still had a firm belief we could turn it around, i was tabbing IRC getting speccys on our SrcTV (peaked around 10 spectators ish) to support our lads, Nicey were there supporting them keeping an interest, and were in #enemydown.css telling us we needed to win. MODx must of heard this, and stepped into another world gear, it was like watching MINISTRY play, but with eXtreme players, they pulled out all the stops with fantastic rushing, perfect picks and exploiting SD:css' weakness and pulled back from 5 - 0 down to 7 - 5 up, and only needing a round to win. But didnt they make it hard, it took a futher round or two to get the win, but they finally won the second half 8 - 6, making it 16 - 13, so the final we were there, guarenteed a Silver Award on our Achievements section of the ED page, we were ready and raring to go.

Our next opponents were NiceY who were a team who had been cheering us on because of our long standing friendship with them. Everyone piled on to their server for de_nuke, a map previously well known to us, incredibly well, a map though which proved to be a sore point from theSGL game on Monday, as we got thumped 12 - 3 on CT side. But we went in there for Gold, spirits high and surely after such a match before, with confidence on our side. NiceY however were confident because they had only dropped 5, 6 & 5 rounds each match, and obviously wanted to keep that record. Pressure was mounting, and i gave another speech, saying we need to do these guys, and that we need to give NiceY a good banter session aswell. So after Bob from NiceY proclaims that we should play Counter Strike Source to make sex not war, we were in for one scare, the knife round was up and it was a shambles, with a few people not staying within the core group, and as NiceY were CT, they opted to stay. We jumped into a 2 - 0 lead with 2 good rushes, and 2 good plants, but seem to lose the third round, which hampered the buy rounds, as you have to go back to an eco. We lost the pattern, but heads kept up, 4 - 2 down and no such luck, but roll on the 7th round, a good round from Kirby, a star player in his own right pulling off the first of his 3 mans. we pulled ourselves back to 4 - 4, NiceY got the following round, before we got our last round of the half, after the 9th round we just lost any sense of rushes/picks, no fakes what so ever, and not enough lower action, but 10 - 5 is still a respectable T Side Half. roll on CT side, and you could say my confidence for this half was a lil below par, because of previous matches where we had lost heavily as CT. I personally think the pressure got to us slightly, because people were biting each others heads off, and expectations had been highered since the last match, had we been relaxed and calm, maybe the cup could have been ours, but we went up 3 - 0, but seemed to lose our way (you could expect that with Buy rounds), and we were pegged back to 3 - 3, MODx took the lead again, and you could say another fantastic 3 man from Kirby, and Crazy being the consistent player he is, but then it all went wrong, cover and rotation was not executed well, and as ever on Nuke, its a heavily rotated oriented map, if you dont rotate fast enough, you lose, and thats what it is for us, slow rotation, and not enough cover, we lost the half 6 - 4 and the match 16 - 9, we gave them a good game, and considering our recent problems, we made it a respectable scoreline, but Silver in the Winter Warmer Cup, and eXtreme's first achievement on ED since Nov 2007, is something to be proud of despite the defaults.

The SGL Season 9:Week 2 (De_Nuke) @ Jan 28 15:44

Ministry Of Darkness Hyper are currently getting an easy ride to the top end of the table with now their second default of the season, however the question next week is "Default or Game On?" but good luck to Hyper next week. Meanwhile on the other side of the water at eXtreme, there are problems with lack of players, and issues with no training, but the team got thumped once again, only picking up 2 rounds on CT side. The question left to answer is whether training can be re-established by the eXtreme lads, will motivation and activity be an issue? Can the eXtreme lads pick it up.... im sure with 7 matches to go, we certainly get a respectable position in the table.
